If you have knowledge of food systems, lived experience, or community connections, you could be a great fit for the city's new Food Justice Fund Governance Committee.
City Council established the fund in July 2023 to “build food sovereignty and end food apartheid in their neighborhoods.” The nine-person committee will include seven community members, one person from Mayor Ed Gainey’s staff, and another from City Council’s staff.
Supported by federal American Rescue Plan money, the fund will focus on neighborhoods most in need. The city is determining those areas by using census data and the Healthy Food Priority Access Areas, which shows rates of diabetes and obesity in relation to food access.
