The Best Pumpkin Treats and Beer in Pittsburgh

Need a new fall beverage? Crack open one of these pumpkin beers from Pittsburgh breweries when you’re sitting around the campfire, watching the black and gold, or carving your jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

The City Cast Pittsburgh team did a blind taste test of 13 local pumpkin beers and narrowed it down to these favorites ⬇️

Pittsburgh Brewing Company’s spin-off brand Block House produces seasonal beers, and their Pumpkin Ale (7% ABV) was far and away the most “pumpkiny” out of our blind taste test. It’s everything you love about pumpkin pie but with a buzz. The perk of this brew? You can find six packs at just about any beer distributor or Giant Eagle that sells beer and wine.

This bourbon barrel aged ale Nunkin Ale (7.9% ABV) is a staple autumn beer with a warm booziness and touch of sweetness — even though it doesn’t actually have any pumpkin in it! Find drafts, four packs, and growlers at the Larimer brewpub or Mt. Lebanon taproom.

  • Tip: Owen got a glass of the Nunkin mixed with Oktoberfest — a suggestion from his bartender — and said it was delicious!

Not a big pumpkin fan? This imperial pumpkin ale (8% ABV) is delightfully subtle , with just enough savory spices and sweet malt. Mallory says she’d kick back with this can any time of year.

The team was extremely skeptical of this pumpkin spiced latte white stout (6.4% ABV), but loved this unique PSL in beer form. The coffee notes balanced out the baking spices and creamy sweetness from marshmallow and vanilla. Grab some cans or a glass at the brewery’s Sharpsburg and Castle Shannon locations.
