Pittsburgh Restaurants to Try in 2025

00:00:00

What are you most excited to eat and drink in 2025? Since it’s the season for aspirations, the City Cast Pittsburgh team parsed through a bunch of “best of” lists to share the local restaurant recommendations we can co-sign and the meals we can’t wait to try next.

Here are our team’s top picks for the Pittsburgh spots we’re most inspired to taste in 2025 ⬇️

📍 East Liberty

This new spot has homemade noodles, rich broth, and savory sides like chili garlic edamame and purple sweet potato fries — need I say more? But wait, there’s actually more: I’ve always wanted to try omurice — fried rice topped with an omelet that’s cut open to cascade over the dish in all of its luscious goodness. — Francesca Dabecco, senior newsletter editor

📍 Strip District

I love Argentinian food and wine, and Balvanera seems to top everyone’s list for both. Look for lots of platitos, or small plates; homemade sausages; decadent veggies like rotisserie beets and roasted carrots; and grilled steaks served with fresh chimi and salsa criolla. And I will be saving room for dessert — both the brûléed basque cheesecake and the torta de manzana, a warm brown sugar cardamom cake topped with cider roasted apples and crème fraîche ice cream. — Megan Harris, host

📍 Whitehall

I’ve personally declared 2025 to be my year of momos, or Nepali dumplings! While Namaste Momo Corner serves up plenty of other plates, I will be ordering all five types of momo dishes. I’m most excited about their steamed momos in a spicy tomato soup and the fried momos tossed with raw veggies and chutney. — Sophia Lo, producer

📍 South Side

I consistently hear people rave about this cozy Italian spot in a former saloon and can’t believe I still haven’t made it. After all, it’s been around for more than 20 years! From homemade potato gnocchi to Pappardelle ai Funghi featuring three types of mushrooms, the menu looks phenomenal. There’s an extensive list of after-dinner drinks, which I look forward to pairing with a chocolate hazelnut torte or limoncello cheesecake (or both!). — Mallory Falk, executive producer

📍 Bloomfield

I know, I know. Myself and everybody else! After being named one of the New York Times’ 50 Best Restaurants in America and one of the best new restaurants by Eater, Fet-Fisk has skyrocketed to the top of everyone’s list of places to try in the city (and the reservations reflect it). Yet here I am, resolving to try it anyway. Fet-Fisk is earning its raves for a delicious-looking, seafood-based menu, including oysters, rainbow trout, and a whole grilled branzino. I’m most excited for their steamed hollander mussels, a dish that I love and can be hard to find an excellent version of in the city. — Owen Gabbey, senior account executive
