The borough of Carnegie, located southwest of Pittsburgh, was incorporated in March 1894 and named after the industrialist-turned-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. He wasn’t from the area, but the borough is the home of one of the greatest shortstops of all time, Pirates player Johannes Peter "Honus" Wagner, aka "the Flying Dutchman.” This year, the Historical Society of Carnegie celebrated the 150th birthday of this local legend.

Eat & Drink
First, coffee: Carnegie Coffee Company is located inside an old post office and filled with cozy corners to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and pastries. They also have a little market section with local goodies and an upstairs area for private events.
Lunch, dinner & drinks: Grab a quick bite at Slice on Broadway; sit down for Irish fare & happy hour at the neighborhood mainstay Riley’s Pour House; get my favorite bibimbap dish at Seoul Korean BBQ; or order a glass of wine and twirl some pasta at LeoGreta.
Dessert: Satisfy your sweet tooth at Scoops in Carnegie or with cookies, cakes, pastries, and custom orders at The Bakery and Dessert Bar at LeoGreta.

Shop Local
If you want to show someone you care, stop by the stationery shop More Than Words. I had so much fun browsing the greeting cards and Pittsburgh goodies, including mugs and stickers reading, “Say it with me: Car-NAY-gie.”
Also check out: Handmade designs at Pittsburgh Pottery & secondhand treasures at The French Spy Antiques & Interiors.

Go, See, Do!
You probably know that Andrew Carnegie funded thousands of libraries all over the world, but did you know that only five were endowed directly by him? The Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall has been a “beacon on the hill” since 1901.
The historic building hosts author visits, local live music, craft nights, and more. Plus, inside the library’s reception room, you can find a beautiful tree-top view of Library Park as well as a permanent, rare collection of 100 photographs of Abraham Lincoln.
During the warmer months, pack a picnic and relax in Carnegie Park. You can even rent out a shelter for special events. Right now, locals are working to restore one of the park’s historic pavilions.
